BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – For 10 years competitive cheerleading squad the ‘Frenzy Katz’ have hit the mats with the rest of the Broward Elite All-Stars teams. They practice, perfect and fine tune their choreographed moves, jumps and stunts. Amanda Hoy is one of the thirteen members of the team of special athletes.
“I like to jump,” Hoy said smiling widely. “It’s happy. It makes me happy.”
The team practices for 90 minutes every Saturday morning. They work hard to solidify their place in the fierce world of South Florida competitive cheerleading. It’s a world Jennifer Cook loves being a part of.
“It feels good and I love to see everybody,” Cook explained with excitement. “I like doing a lot of stuff. I do a lot of activities.”
And it’s all done in preparation for competition day.
“Now taking the stage competing in our special athletes division from Davie, Fla. Help me welcome Broward Elite All-Stars Frenzy Katz,” echoes through the Broward Convention Center as the Frenzy Katz takes the stage. Coach Marcus Buchanan leads the wild excitement that is the Frenzy Katz, while team mom Renee Bailey watches daughter Cassidy from the front of the stage.
“It's a total character change, from just the practice to being on stage,” Bailey said. “I've been here six years now. I think every time I see her get up there and do it there’s tears running down my face."
