A 12-year-old who was home alone came face-to-face with a burglar in broad daylight, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

The break-in happened July 26 in Dania Beach.

Ernesto Pena, 12, was in his bedroom when he heard someone at the door. He didn’t answer the knock because he was by himself.

He then heard a noise and footsteps inside his house.

When he went to investigate he saw a man in his sister’s room.

The stranger told him to get back in his room and stay put.

The suspect, who was caught on a home security system, took several electronic items, passports and jewelry, according to BSO.

Pena was not hurt.

Anyone with information is urged to call BSO Det. Peter McGowan at 954-518-0155 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
