FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A South Florida man accused of setting his girlfriend on fire in November is now facing a first-degree murder charge.

Broward Sheriff's Office detectives said Aniuska Reguisero-Garces died Dec. 29.

Her boyfriend, Noe Jimenez-Cortes, was arrested Nov. 2, hours after the victim told deputies that she was intentionally set on fire by him.

Investigators determined that Jimenez-Cortes poured an accelerant on the victim and lit her on fire at a home in North Lauderdale.

Jimenez-Cortes initially faced an attempted murder charge, but the charge was upgraded now that Reguisero-Garces has died.
