DANIA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say South Florida deputies shot and wounded a woman who was chasing another woman with a meat cleaver.

The Sun Sentinel reports that the shooting occurred Wednesday morning in Dania Beach.

The Broward Sheriff's Office says deputies were responding to a domestic disturbance when they spotted the two women. Investigators say the deputies ordered the armed woman to drop the meat cleaver multiple times. Officials say the woman then charged the deputies, prompting them to fire.

Sheriff Gregory Tony says the woman was hit at least once. Her injuries weren't considered life-threatening.

Investigators weren't immediately saying how the two women knew each other or why one was chasing the other with a meat cleaver. Officials weren't saying how many deputies were involved.

State law enforcement officials will investigate the shooting.
