Brevard County deputy wounded in shooting that began with neighbors fighting over feral cats

INDIALANTIC, Fla. — A Brevard County deputy was seriously wounded in a shooting Tuesday night that began with neighbors fighting over feeding feral cats.

The sheriff said the deputy was called to a home near Indialantic, Florida, around 8:30 p.m. because of a fight between neighbors.

During the argument, one of the neighbors became agitated and got a rifle.

There was a shootout between the man with a gun and the deputy. The man with the gun, whose name has not been identified, was shot and killed.

The deputy was shot multiple times, rushed to the hospital and into surgery.

Sheriff Wayne Ivey said the deputy, whose name has not been arrested, is in serious but stable condition.
