DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- A boy has rescued a girl from drowning in a community pool in Deerfield Beach.
Local news outlets report that 11-year-old Angel Rivera noticed that the 13-year-old girl was submerged in the deep end of the pool Sunday evening and jumped in to pull her out.
Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles says the girl was unconscious when she was rescued. By the time emergency responders arrived, two adults had begun administering CPR. Firefighters took over and continued administering CPR until she started breathing.
The girl was taken to a hospital and is listed in critical condition.
Jachles says the pool was closed at the time of the incident.
