COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — (WBBH/NBC) - A big furry animal was spotted trespassing in a Florida resident's yard -- and it wasn’t a dog or cat.

Collier County homeowner Ricky Cartaino recorded video of a large black bear in front of his house.

The animal, which could weigh as much as 300 pounds, was spotted lumbering around for a few minutes then took off.

Cantaino says this isn't the first time the bear has been in the area.

"I've seen that bear before because when I take my dog out that way I've seen him in the distance. I also heard him come out. I turned around and saw him come across the road," said Cartaino.

He believes the increase in housing developments are pushing more bears out in the open.

However, Florida Fish and Wildlife officers say this is the time of year for young bears to disperse and find new territory.
