LABELLE, Fla. — A 20-year-old man was arrested Monday in connection with the fatal shooting of a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officer in LaBelle.

According to the Hendry County Sheriff's Office, Eliceo Hernandez faces a murder charge.

Julian Keen Jr., 30, was found fatally shot Sunday morning near Apache Circle and Nobles Road.

Hendry County Sheriff's Office Capt. Susan Harrelle said Keen and another man had witnessed a reckless driver, prompting Keen to get in his truck and follow the vehicle.

After Keen and Hernandez stopped, Keen confronted Hernandez and was later shot, investigators said.

"Our hearts are aching today," Hendry County Sheriff Steve Whidden said. "He was a remarkable man because of the depths of his commitment to all around him."

Hernandez was being held in the county jail on a $500,000 bond.
