WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The New Year brings with it one negative for about 100,000 Floridians still using older, battery-powered SunPass devices. In 2016, they become obsolete.
Drivers have to switch to a newer version that doesn't need batteries.
The state has sent people still using the older models letters and emails with directions on how to swap them out for a newer transponder. The switch will not cost SunPass users anything.

Using only the newer SunPasses will allow Florida to sync its toll system with Georgia's and North Carolina's.
