WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A Florida man who threw a bottle during an argument with his ex-girlfriend and hit a man has been convicted in the man's death.
The Palm Beach Post reports that jurors found 31-year-old Shane Skyers guilty of manslaughter and aggravated assault on Thursday. No sentencing date was immediately set.
Prosecutors say Skyers had been moving out of a Belle Glade apartment in May 2016 when he and his ex-girlfriend began to argue. At some point, Skyers threw a bottle he had been holding, and authorities say it hit 60-year -old Egente Hibbert. The older man fell to the ground, hit his head and was knocked out. He died several weeks later without regaining consciousness.
Skyers testified that the bottle never hit Hibbert, insisting that it crashed on the ground.
