Law enforcement needed to use spike strips Wednesday night to stop a 51-year-old man after a police chase in St. Lucie County.

Sheriff's Office spokesman Bryan Beaty said a deputy attempted to pull over a driver, later identified as Nelson Echazabal, around 10:30 p.m. near Midway Road and 25th Street.

A 15-minute chase ensued near the city limits of Fort Pierce and Port St Lucie.

Law enforcement used spike strips twice during the chase, hitting two tires on Echazabal's vehicle.

Echazabal drove on the vehicle's rims to his home near Solida Road and Floresta Drive in Port St. Lucie, said Beaty.

Echazabal was arrested and charged with fleeing and eluding, driving under the influence, driving an unregistered vehicle and violating probation for burglary.

No one was hurt during the chase.
