St. Lucie County detectives investigating man's death near Fort Pierce

The victim has been identified as Richard Eugene Avery, 45, of Fort Pierce.

Detectives said Avery was shot to death.

St. Lucie County deputies are investigating a man's death near Fort Pierce.

Sheriff Ken Mascara said deputies were called to the 600 block of South Market Ave. and found the victim.

Detectives are now following up on leads and looking for witnesses.

"This is a heavy industrial area, lot of businesses, a lot of industry," Mascara said. "They're canvasing the area, looking for videos."

The sheriff asked anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area between 12:45 p.m. and 1 p.m. Monday or knows what happened to call Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273-8477.
