U.S. Senator Bill Nelson was is Port St. Lucie Monday afternoon touching local and national topics with local and county leaders.
Senator Nelson, who supported President Trump's decision to strike Syria with Tomahawk missiles, was asked what next steps should be taken in North Korea.
The Senator says it's key for China to step in and use their leverage to deescalate the situation.
"Otherwise, we're out there as the defender of South Korea, the defender of Japan. The defender of Australia and all the other nations in the region," he said.
On the local front, St. Lucie County officials say Nelson was instrumental in securing $1.5 million that will go towards the construction of a new hangar at the Treasure Coast International Airport.
