A Port St. Lucie woman is behind bars after police say she stole a car, knocked down a man trying to stop her, left the scene of an accident and tried to ram a police cruiser.

Police say the events unfolded Thursday night in the 200 block of SW Ridgecrest Drive.

Officers say Kelly Ann Callahan, 41, stole a car following a disturbance she was in with a man and woman.

The man tried to stop her but the stolen car knocked him to the ground and he suffered severe road rash on his arm, according to police.

They say as a responding officer drove to the scene on SW Darwin Boulevard, Callahan drove into an oncoming lane and tried, but missed, ramming the patrol car.

Police say Callahan later crashed into a Chevrolet on SW Belmont Circle and then left the scene.

The driver who was struck was injured in the arm.

Police eventually found Callahan and the stolen vehicle at the intersection of SW Bridgeport Drive and SW Landale Boulevard.

Officers took her to jail on charges of grand theft auto, aggravated battery, and aggravated assault of a police officer. Police also gave her a criminal citation for leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.
