ORIGINAL STORY:

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- A toddler is on life support after being pulled from a swimming pool Saturday morning in Port St. Lucie.

Police say the home owners were out of town and their son, his fiance, and their 23-month-old boy, was house sitting for them.

Also inside the home was the homeowners' 14-year-old son and 23-year-old daughter, who are also siblings of the father of the 23-month-old boy.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the 23-toddler was on the couch as his father was in another room. The mother of the toddler was not home at the time and the father's other siblings were in separate rooms of the house.

After approximately 30 minutes the father heard the dogs barking and noticed that the toddler was no longer in the house.

The father then discovered the boy floating face down in the back yard in-ground swimming pool.

Police believe the boy got out of the house through a "doggie" door.

The father pulled the child from the pool and performed CPR on him as the father's 23-year-old sister called 911.

The child was transported to a nearby hospital where he remains on life support.

Detectives are currently investigating this near-drowning.
