A 3-year-old boy was flown to the hospital after being bitten in the face by the family dog, according to the Port St. Lucie Police Department.
The incident happened at 1317 SE Laconia Lane in Port St. Lucie,
According to officials, the boy screamed after being pinched by an object in his mouth that he was playing with. The dog, an American pit bull, was standing next to the boy and apparently reacted to being startled by bitting the boy in the face.
The child was flown to St. Mary's Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Animal Care & Control took custody of the dog, police say.
