A man who shot a gun out of the sunroof of a BMW as a show of force will get to explain his actions to a judge, according to Port St. Lucie police.

Officers say they heard gunshots around 1:50 Thursday morning in the 300 block of SE Port St. Lucie Boulevard. They describe the area as primarily a business district.

An officer saw a white car leave the area and police later stopped a white BMW near SE Shipping Road and SW Port St. Lucie Boulevard.

A passenger admitted that the driver had shot his weapon out of the sunroof as they drove on Port St. Lucie Boulevard, according to police.

He was identified as Daniel O Rodriguez, 18, of Fort Pierce.

According to police, Rodriguez said he shot his gun as a show or force.

Police say they found a Black Walther Pk380 handgun under the front passenger’s seat of the BMW, spent shell casings, an amoxicillin pill and marijuana.

They charged Rodriguez with firing a weapon from vehicle, driving under the influence, using a firearm under the influence, possession of controlled substance without prescription, and possession of marijuana under 20 grams.
