PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — This week, the city of Port St. Lucie set an all-time record, issuing 286 building permits in a single day.

So, to better keep up with growth, city officials just started a service that might have you asking, 'Do you want a burger, to go with that building permit?'"

Building Code Administrator Joel Dramis says their new drive-thru at the building department is their latest effort to improve customer service.

“It allows people to do business without getting out of the car. In inclement weather, dragging kids, dragging dogs, dragging everybody into building department. They can do it from the comfort of their car," said Dramis.

Right now, the city averages 200 permits a day, 4,000 a month, and 48,000 a year.

If you have issues with business tax, utilities, engineering, or planning and zoning, you can also use the drive-thru.

As more people learn about the drive-thru, Dramis hopes to reduce wait times in the lobby.

“We want them to get the kind of service they would get at a drive-thru pharmacy or at a fast-food restaurant," said Dramis.

Open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Dramis claims this is the first drive-thru of its kind in the country, and he’s now getting requests for information about it from all over.
