Monday is the deadline to register for April 23 St. Lucie County schools referendum

UPDATE: This story was updated to reflect that the school district now says the average taxable value to single family homes and condos is approximately $8.50 per month.

EARLIER:

Monday is the deadline to register to vote in St. Lucie County for the April 23 school referendum.

If approved, property taxes would increase to give teachers raises, pay for school security and improve student mental health programs. If approved, the average homeowner with a $200,000 home would pay an extra $8.50 a month over four years.

This is an all-mail ballot election, which means every registered voter in St. Lucie County will receive a ballot during the first week of April.

All ballots must be received no later than 7 p.m. on April 23.

In order to ensure that your ballot will be counted, voters should mail their ballot no later than four days prior to the election or hand deliver it to one of the four locations:

* 250 NW Country Club Dr., Port St. Lucie
* 1664 SE Walton Rd., Port St. Lucie
* 4132 Okeechobee Rd, Fort Pierce
* New Tax Collector Building in Tradition 10264 SW Village Parkway Dr., Port St. Lucie
