A four-legged friend has a new lease on life thanks to some attentive St. Lucie County Sheriff's office deputies.

Leaving a home in Fort Pierce recently, deputies heard a dog whimpering.

According to a post on the department's Facebook page, they discovered a puppy who had fallen into a septic drain.

They scooped out the scared pup and cleaned him.

After failing to find the owner a deputy who rescued the animal decided to adopt him.

The pup seems to be enjoying life based on the photos posted by the Sheriff's Office.
