A person is in custody following a shooting Thursday night in Fort Pierce.
It happened around 8:30 on North 23rd Street.
Responding officers found the victim, a 42-year-old-man, with a gunshot wound to the back.
He was conscious and police say he was able to describe the person who shot him.
Police say it matched the description of Lamontez Lurry, who initially got away when officers first spotted him. They later found Lurry, 36, at his home.
According to the victim, who was not identified, he was shot trying to break up a fight between Lurry and a woman.
Police have charged Lurry with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
The victim is in stable condition.
