The National Navy UDT-SEAL Museum in Fort Pierce will host a commemorative D-Day program Thursday.
Naval combat demolition units played a vital role in opening some lanes for the allied landing craft. But it came at a serious cost.
“We had a 52% casualty rate which means either killed or wounded, which is way too many people for any type of assault. So these guys really sacrificed so that’s what we’re going to honor," said museum executive director Rick Kaiser.
The event begins at 10 a.m. with the commemorative program highlighting the SEALs contributions starting at 11.
