A Fort Pierce woman was seriously injured when she was struck by a boat Friday, according to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials.

Investigators said Samantha Saunier, 27, was snorkeling in the Homosassa Bay on the Gulf Coast.

As she was swimming back to her vessel, she was hit by a passing boat, which didn't stop.

Saunier’s father was able to flag down another vessel that transported her to a boat ramp. She was taken to Bayonett Point Medical Center in Hudson, Fla., with a spiral cut from her lower back to her knee and a fractured pelvic bone.

The FWC is asking help from the public in identifying the vessel that struck Saunier.

Anyone with information can call the Wildlife Alert hotline at 888-404-3922.

The investigation is ongoing.
