The Florida Highway Patrol said a 79-year-old man from Miami was killed Tuesday morning after a single-vehicle crash on Florida's Turnpike in St. Lucie County.
FHP said a 29-year-old woman was driving a 2005 Ford Expedition in the southbound lanes just past exit 152 at 7:20 a.m.
The SUV, which had six passengers, was traveling southbound in the inside lane, but for an undetermined reason the driver lost control.
This caused the vehicle to rotate clockwise, roll over and strike the State Road 9 bridge embankment.
The front seat passenger, identified at Willie Clyde Stround, 79, of Miami was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver and other passengers, which included three children ages 1, 5 and 6, were taken to Lawnwood Medical Center and treated for minor injuries.
