ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. — A family from Kentucky was involved in a deadly rollover crash on the Florida Turnpike in St. Lucie County over the weekend.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the wreck happened Saturday at 8:20 a.m. in the southbound lanes at mile marker 163.

FHP said a 2006 Toyota Tundra, driven by 42-year-old Michael Ray Cardwell of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, crashed into a guardrail and flipped over.

Cardwell died on scene, according to St. Lucie County Fire Rescue.

Two other people in the car suffered serious injuries, and two others suffered minor injuries.

For hours, southbound traffic was detoured at Yeehaw Junction.

FHP said it's unclear why Cardwell lost control of the vehicle.
