PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — Southern Palm Beach County took a step toward ending homelessness this week.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Monday for affordable, transitional housing located at 21441 Boca Rio Rd. in western Boca Raton.
Located adjacent to the Place of Hope, the "Marshall and Vera Lea Rinker Village and Gary Peters Family Transitional Housing Complex" hopes to be more than a home to its residents.
Those who live there will have access to mentoring and counseling services, education, job placement assistance and job training.
“I think what’s important is that people understand the true need here, and I’m talking about young people who actually want to be successful. They want to make something out of their lives. They’re coming out of homelessness. There’s young families with children that are trying to make it, but they just need a hand up. They need help," said Place of Hope CEO Charles Bender.
This is the first building on the Marshall and Vera Lea Rinker Village, which will ultimately comprise four buildings that will providing housing and counseling from the adjacent Place of Hope centers.
Each building will have eight units, and the expanded campus will be able to accommodate approximately 64 beds in total. Administrators said the overall Leighan and David Rinker campus will eventually provide more than 100 beds to those in need.
The complex will be home to 16 additional young adults that have aged-out of the foster care system.
