PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — A driver who died after crashing into a retention pond Thursday west of Boynton Beach has been identified.
Investigators said 93-year-old Lucille Schwartz of Boynton Beach was heading south on Jog Road near Flavor Pict Road in a Volkswagen Jetta when she veered right and over a curb and fence and into the water.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue said its first crews on the scene reported the Jetta was at least 5-to-20 feet from shore, partially submerged and had its windows rolled up.
The sheriff's office said while fire rescue was attempting a rescue the car submerged with Schwartz inside.
Special Ops divers were able to pull her from the car and she was transported to a hospital where she was pronounced deceased, officials said.
