DELRAY BEACH, Fla. — A sleep lab in Palm Beach County is helping restless people get a good night’s sleep.

Getting a good night's rest is important to all of us, but many people struggle to get quality sleep.

Specialists say these problems should not be ignored.

"It is a very serious … the common one, the sleep breathing disorder. It's related to how we sleep, how we breathe in our sleep," said Delray Beach Medical Center Sleep Lab Coordinator Wilma Cavallaro.

At Delray Medical Center, experts study sleep issues at their sleep lab. One of those associated dangers they analyze is people who do not breathe properly while they sleep.

"Sleep apnea is linked to diabetes, linked to high blood pressure, heart problems," said Cavallaro.

But how do you know if you have a problem?

"If they feel like they go to bed early, and they feel like they are in bed sleeping like eight to 9 hours, and they wake up still tired and sleepy during the day, morning headaches,” said Cavallaro.

The bottom line is talk to your doctor to rule out sleep apnea as a possible cause of your restless nights and if you have daily fatigue.

Your physician can order a sleep study and help you get to the root of the problem.
