Singing, praying, lighting candles and sharing stories. Survivors of the Holocaust remembered the horrible genocide with ceremonies today.
The United States celebrates Holocaust Remembrance Day on the 27th day of Nisan on the Hebrew calendar. According to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, the date is also the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.
In suburban Delray Beach, dozens of survivors honored the lives lost with a ceremony at the Weisman Center.
The Flame Society organized the event. It works to make sure the Holocaust is not forgotten, therefore preventing another genocide from occurring. It held this year’s ceremony in conjunction with Ruth and Norman Rales Jewish Family Services.
Some estimates say the Nazis killed more than 6 million Jews during the Holocaust.
