A reduction in bond was denied Wednesday for the man accused of striking and killing MMA fighter Jordan Parsons with his car in Delray Beach in May.

The attorney for Dennis Wright, who was arrested in the case, made the argument in court that $45,000 was too high of a bond to pay.

Wright and his mother both took the stand to try to persuade the judge.

But the plan may have back fired after testimony revealed that along with a roommate, Wright paid close to $5,000 a month for rent before his arrest.

His mother was also paying more than $900 for the car he drove.

After the decision to deny the bond reduction, members of Jordan Parsons’ family applauded the decision.

“The whole team, the whole family was really happy justice had been served,” former trainer Linton Vassell said.

The defense said they may appeal the decision. Attorney Robert Resnick says he is also looking at evidence claiming there was an eye witness to the crash who said a silver sports car hit Parsons.

"It's in the accident report, it's a matter of public record," Resnick said. "It's just kind of interesting that it was never produced by the Delray Police Department to the state at this point."

Parsons, 25, died on May 4, three days after the hit-and-run crash on Federal Highway at Lindell Boulevard. Wright was later arrested in June.

According to officials, Wright may have been driving 100 mph before he hit Parsons.

The Delray Beach Police Department says they can't comment on pending cases, but a police report says-there is no evidence indicating there was another witness to this hit and run.

After the accident, police did say they recovered Wright's SUV which had remnants of the victim's jacket.

Wright's next court date is October 17.
