DELRAY BEACH, Fla.- Dozens of kids and Delray Beach Police officers teamed up for a holiday shopping spree.

More than 40 kids paired up with officers at the Heroes & Helpers event at Target on Linton Blvd.

Kids had $100 to spend on presents for their siblings, parents and themselves.

Officers say this a great way to build relationships with the community.

“Today I bought lots of toys and plus I'm having fun,” said 7-year-old Ahaziah Germain.

Ahaziah was paired with Officer Arielle Leblanc, with the Delray Beach Police Department. “It helps us build a relationship with young kids and to help hopefully keep those relationships as they get older and know that we're here for them,” she explained.

The program, Delray Lacrosse & Leadership sponsored the event.

The police department is also participating in a Christmas toy drive to help families that will be going on through December 23.
