The Delray Beach Police Department is marking the passing of a retired K9.
The department said Max, who served for nine years in patrol and narcotics detection, died Thursday at the age of 13.
“His personality was awesome, sweet as can be but turned it on when it was time to work,” said his only handler Sgt. Adam Margolis in a statement posted on the department's Facebook page.
Max, who retired in 2014 and was adopted by the Margolis family, was the department’s first Belgian malinois, police said.
“He seriously was a special dog," Margolis said.
