Police arrest two maids for stealing

Police in Delray Beach say two maids stole from their clients. They’ve tracked down three suspected victims and believe there may be more out there.

Lisa Tarr and Hannah Mufson are both facing grand theft charges. Tarr faces additional felony charges for pawning stolen items.

In one case, detectives believe the pair stole nearly $20,000 worth of jewelry.

According to detectives, the women are worked for Molly Maid in Boca Raton from March 23 to April 8. Delray Beach police first got a call about the pair on April 8.

A representative from Molly Maid says both women passed a background check.

Detective Paul Pitti says don’t put jewelry in obvious places, like a dresser in the master bedroom. Instead, hide jewelry in places only you’d be able to find it.

If you use a safe, make sure it’s bolted to the ground.

If you have a valuable family keepsake you never use or wear, Pitti suggests keeping it in a safety deposit box at a bank.

“The toughest part is the sentimental value far exceeds the monetary value. It’s very difficult when someone loses an item of that great a value to them,” Pitti says.

He adds you shouldn’t feel bad about being home when a cleaning service is there.

“That’s your house, that’s your stuff. You want to protect that. So you have every right to question who’s in your home, what they’re doing, and even check on them and look over their shoulder,” Pitti points out.

Home security experts say there are cameras you can install in your home which provide a live video feed to your cell phone so you can watch what is happening inside your home from anywhere. Some companies offer sensors which go off when something like a jewelry box lid is opened.

Police have recovered some jewelry they think Tarr and Mufson stole from unidentified clients. If you’re missing anything from your home, and these women cleaned it, call Det. Pitti at 561-243-7800
