A boater is safe thanks in part to a beacon that activated when he fell off his vessel, according to the Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard said it rescued the man who was on a 25 foot sailboat 3 nautical miles east of Delray Beach Thursday.

The man's Personal Locator Beacon went off when he fell overboard, the Coast Guard said.

Officials did not identify the boater or say where he was sailing from.
