There's a changing of the guard in Boynton Beach.
Tuesday night, voters chose a "political newcomer" to take over as mayor of the city.
Steven Grant, 33, knocked out five-term incumbent Jerry Taylor a margin of over 630 votes.
It came as quite a surprise to many in Palm Beach County.
Grant, who has never held office before, faced Taylor in a runoff. He will now serve a three-year term in office.
We caught up with Grant outside of city hall Wednesday afternoon as he was walking in to take care of paperwork before he takes his new seat.
He credits residents in the community for drumming up support for him in the days leading up to the runoff - especially on social media.
Grant says his background as both a lawyer and a financial advisor will benefit Boynton.
"A lot of people didn't even give me a chance because they're like, 'Who is this kid who's on the financial advisory committee?' Grant said. "I always believed in myself, and that's what propelled me forward."
Among his goals are ramping up recycling in Boynton, making changes to the Community Redevelopment Agency, and establishing a downtown cultural center.
He's set to officially be sworn in at the next commission meeting on April 5.
