A true test between man and his dog this weekend, as police officers and their K9 partners are competing against other law enforcement tandems across Florida.
It takes a little of everything to win, just ask the first ever winner seven years ago, Officer Mark Sohn, from the Boynton Beach Police Department.
“Dog listening well. The training. The relationship that you guys have. And somewhat being physically fit,” Sohn said.
Each duo is required to train every week. It takes 480 hours just for the basics.
Agencies from all over Florida will be in Boynton Beach Saturday, including Officer John Marin, from Miami PD, who’s going for his third title.
“I’m a firm believer that if you do have fun with your dog you’re more likely to succeed in this obstacle course. Have fun every single day,” he said.
Officer Marin says he’s lost weight every year he’s trained. Even though he’s technically in control, the hardest part for him is keeping up.
“You gotta run behind your dog the whole time,” he said.
