Three people have lost thousands of dollars in a bank scam, according to Boynton Beach police who are concerned there could be other victims.

Police said the victims, in their 70s or 80s, were called by a person claiming to be a bank representative and that their accounts or debit cards were compromised. In two of the cases, they were told to expect someone to stop by and collect them. A short time later someone did show up and collected several cards.

In the third case, police said the victim gave his debit card numbers over the phone after being told his cards were compromised.

Investigators said the three victims live in the Hunters Run community.

Detectives say if you receive a similar call, hang up and call your bank directly and never give your credit or debit card information to someone you do not know.

Boynton Beach police say call them at 561-732-8116 to report all suspicious activity.

The scam is not new. More than two years ago a bank customer in Delray Beach lost money in a similar scheme.
