A 24-year-old man was killed in a single-car crash in Boynton Beach early Saturday morning, according to Boynton Beach Police Department.

The accident happened around 1:45 a.m. on Southwest 23rd Avenue.

Officials say the driver, Gerald Knott, lost control of his 2004 VW Passat and crashed into a concrete pole.

Knott was driving at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate the right hand curve just prior to South Seacrest Boulevard, according to traffic homicide investigators.

Knott was pronounced dead at the scene.

South Seacrest Boulevard was temporarily closed to traffic while FPL worked on the pole and power lines.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call Traffic Homicide Investigator Chris Munro at 742-6112.
