SUBURBAN BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. -- A man is dead after a car crash near Lyons Road and Hypoluxo Road in suburban Boynton Beach.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue crews arrived to the scene of the crash Sunday morning and found a wrecked car against a wall.

Investigators determined that a 2006 Dodge Viper driven by 61-year-old Scott Lee Stefan was traveling at a rate of speed well above the posted speed limit at the time of the crash.

The involvement of a second vehicle, possibly a sports car, is being investigated.

The two vehicles may have been involved in a road rage incident or a speed competition when Stefan lost control of his car, left the roadway and struck a tree and then a concrete and stucco wall.

There was no evidence of contact between the Viper and another vehicle.

Stefan was pronounced dead at the scene.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Investigator D.L. Hyde at 561-681-4542.
