A 53-year-old West Boca man was killed in a wreck Saturday night on Southwest 3rd Street near the intersection with Lyons Road.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said the incident occurred at 8:18 p.m. when the driver, James Patrick Thompson, crashed a 2002 Ford F-250.

Thompson was traveling east on Southwest 3rd Street in the right turn lane approaching the intersection.

A witness said the truck appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed and had at least one flat tire, possibly two.

The truck entered the intersection and Thompson lost control, collided into a traffic signal pole and palm tree.

PBSO said the truck came to rest between the tree and pole.

Fire Rescue responded and pronounced Thompson dead at the scene.  His next of kin has been notified.
