There’s a new security feature for students at Florida Atlantic University.
This semester the university rolled out the Guardian App.
It allows students to use their cellphones to track and check on friends.
The app has a panic button which sends an alert directly to police without calling 9-1-1.
"I think it's good to that your friends know what's up with you and if they think something's not right, they can call to check up on you. Everybody walks around with their phone, so it's not a hassle to have that there, it's really convenient," said FAU senior Alex Lema.
The app is free for faculty, staff and students.
The police chief says he hopes the app prevents crime and helps users feel even more secure on campus.
