Anna Kuhn and her parents traveled from her home in York, Pennsylvania to Boca Raton for her wish to become a mermaid.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation Southern Florida Chapter and Western Pennsylvania Chapter worked together to help make her wish come true.

As soon as Anna spotted the , mermaids , on the beach, she went running to greet them.

After a few minutes of getting to know each other, the mermaids and Anna went to the pool at the Boca Raton Beach Club, where they taught her how to swim like a mermaid. Then, she got to become a "mermaid newscaster" and ask the mermaids some questions.

Anna was born with two congenital heart defects and had her first heart surgery at a week old. Her most recent heart surgery was in February, and she's had several others in between.

While she is doing well and thriving, her parents say she will continue to need surgeries and need to be monitored for the rest of her life.

Her mom Laura Kuhn says the experience of watching her daughter's wish come true was overwhelming. "I'm speechless honestly. She amazes us every day with her ability to bounce back from everything and continue to be a normal kid."

Laura says it was great to watch the wish come together. "It's amazing. If you knew how far she's come from how sick she's been to this healthy 6-year-old who just wants to run around and swim with mermaids, it is awe-inspiring actually."

But the experience is about more than just mermaids. It gives this family time to be together, and simply be a family.

"Usually we have to save our vacation time and our time off for 'just in case' hospital visits or if she gets sick," Laura says. "So this has meant we actually have our first real family vacation just the three of us. We get to be a family and not have to worry and we can just enjoy each other and enjoy our child so it's appreciated."
