It’s not on the list of courses this semester, but at Lynn University one of the subjects generating a lot of interest is civility.
The Boca Raton university is presenting Project Civitas this spring. It’s a program developed by Robert Watson, a professor of American Studies at the university and a political analyst with WPTV NewsChannel 5.
The program is intended to promote civility, not just in politics, but in all walks of life.
As part of the program, the university hosted two discussion sessions at the Wold Performing Arts Center on campus. One featured elected officials and the other included journalists.
The elected officials were U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel, D-West Palm Beach, U.S. Rep. Ted Deutch, D-Boca Raton, Fla. Rep. Lori Berman, D-Boynton Beach, and Palm Beach County Commissioner Steve Abrams, R-Boca Raton. The media panel included WPTV's Michael Williams, Antonio Fins, Business Editor at The Palm Beach Post, Manny Munoz, host and producer at WIOD 610-AM, and Johanna Newman, formerly with USA Today.
Here are some clips with some of the highlights of the sessions.
