A Coral Springs woman drove under the influence of alcohol or drugs when she crashed her car with two children in the backseat on I-95 in Boca Raton, the Florida Highway Patrol says.
FHP Troopers responded to a crash on I-95 southbound near Palmetto Park Road early Monday morning. The trooper reported the driver of the car, Cierra Thomas, having bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and smelling of alcohol.
Two small children and an adult woman were in Thomas’s car at the time of the crash, according to an arrest report. The child seats were not properly installed before the crash.
The trooper reported seeing a bottle of Fireball whiskey on the floor of the driver’s side and noticed the smell of alcohol in the car. There was also a clear baby bottle filled with a brown liquid, the trooper’s report says.
Thomas told the trooper her leg hurt from an injury in the crash when asked to perform a field sobriety test.
Boca Raton Fire Rescue took Thomas and the two children to West Boca Medical Center.
Thomas was arrested and is charged with DUI and child neglect.
