PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- A Palm Beach Gardens man is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly threatening his Muslim wife's life over her religion, according to police.

According to an arrest report, the woman told police that her husband, Juan Calderon, said "You're a Muslim and deserve to die" and "You're ISIS" during a dispute at their residence. She told police Calderon stated that he had a gun on the left side of his waist while making the statements.

Palm Beach Gardens Police Department says, "neither parties' statements corroborated with each other."

Calderon told police he got into an argument with his wife because he refused to go to a birthday party and that she grabbed a knife from the kitchen and said "I will kill you."

Police say, "the decision was made to separate the two parties, who agreed to resolve their martial problems peacefully."

A short time later, officers were called back to the residence, in reference to Calderon barricading himself into his room and not letting his wife grab her work uniforms.

Police arrested Calderon. They say a search revealed he took all of his wife's jewelry which he was concealing in his front pocket.

Calderon told police it was his jewelry since all marital assets are joint property.

Police retrieved a .45 caliber Glock model 30 along with one 10-round Glock magazine, 10 Winchester .45 caliber rounds and one .45 caliber CBC round.

Juan Calderon was charged with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (Domestic Violence) and transported to the Palm Beach County Jail without incident.
