A witness sprang into action Thursday evening after seeing a man struggle in the water at John D. MacArthur Beach State Park.

"They were yelling for people, whoever knows how to swim, please, come help this man, he's drowning,” said witness Troy Moniz.

Moniz said he rushed to help after hearing the man's family plea for help.

"I ran down there, jumped in the water, swam out there.  It was probably about 25, 26 meters, swam out there, flipped him over on his back, put my arm underneath him and just started swimming back," said Moniz.

Rescue crews rushed the swimmer to the hospital, saying he went into cardiac arrest. The victim’s condition has not been released.
