The first loggerhead turtle nest of the season in our area was spotted earlier this week at MacArthur Beach State Park.
The state park posted a picture of the nest on their Instagram page Wednesday. Last year that beach had an estimated 1,500 loggerhead nests.
The park offers sea turtle talks and walks throughout the season. Click here to register.
Help Protect Turtles
The Loggerhead Marinelife Center asks the public to help sea turtles by not marking a sea turtle nest or crawl for park workers, especially by using protected sea grasses and vegetation or sticks.
This is act is harmful to the beach environment and sea turtle nests, and makes it more difficult for surveyors.
The LMC research team monitors 9.5 miles of beach daily, from MacArthur Beach State Park up to Jupiter Island, during sea turtle nesting season.
