A man officials say was pulled from a canal in Lake Worth Friday afternoon and later died was running from deputies, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.
The department has identified him as 32-year-old Edgar Velez.
According to officials, he was wanted on several counts of burglary and grand theft and he tried to get away from deputies by jumping into a canal. Deputies tried coaxing him to shore but he refused and went under the water.
Fire rescue crews responded to the scene in the area of 10th Avenue and Florida-Mango at about 5:15 p.m. and pulled Velez from the water.
He was transported to a local area hospital for treatment and passed away on Saturday.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.
