JUPITER, Fla. — A new pediatric emergency department opens Friday May 3 at Jupiter Medical Center.

An honorary ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Tuesday for the Mastroianni Family Pediatric Emergency Department, which will provide 24-hour care for patients up to 18 years of age.

It features eight treatment rooms, with medical equipment designed specifically for young patients, as well as toys and games to help kids reduce the stress of being in an emergency room.

"This is really all about our community and their families to get the care that they deserve in the best facility possible," said Co-Interim Chief Executive Officer Joanne Miller.

In the fall, Jupiter Medical Center is planning to open a 16-bed, Level 2 neonatal intensive care unit which will help moms at 32 weeks deliver their babies.
