The Martin County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday morning they are investigating the death of a 15-year-old boy who attended South Fork High School.

Public Information Officer Christine Weiss said in a written statement that the teen was found by his mother unresponsive and not breathing at their Stuart home early Thursday morning.

Detectives are awaiting the results of an autopsy to complete their investigation.

Weiss said no further details about the case will be available until after the medical examiner completes the autopsy.

The name of the student has not been released.

The principal sent the following call to parents:

Good Afternoon, this is Jay Blavatt, principal of South Fork High School. It is with great sadness that I share with you the loss of one of our students today.  It is always difficult to share, as the student’s passing is a tragedy.  Grief counselors have been available to our staff and students throughout the day and will be on site tomorrow.  Please monitor your child’s behavior and emotions and feel free to contact the school for additional resources and support during this challenging time.  Now more than ever, we hold each other close as one united Bulldog Nation.  Tonight, hug your kids and please keep our Bulldog family in your thoughts and prayers.
